The New Era Windows Cooperative was formed after a group of former workers from Republic Windows and Doors came together and decided to open their own window company after Republic infamously closed its doors in 2008. When Republic closed, these workers staged a sit-in at Republic's Goose Island factory since they were not compensated for their accrued sick and vacation days.
